Ecuador Travel Writing

The first time I travelled to Ecuador in 2018, I spent almost three months there: studying Spanish, volunteering at an Amazon animal rescue centre and scuba diving in the Galapagos. In the years since, I’ve travelled to Ecuador twice more and written many thousands of words on the country, mostly in collaboration with the Ecuador tourism board and National Geographic Traveller UK. In 2024, my travel writing feature on Ecuador, “Back to Basics”, won Consumer Magazine Print Feature of the Year (Latin America & The Caribbean) at the Inspire Global Media Awards.

What follows is a selection of my Ecuador travel writing. I’ve covered diverse topics and regions, including indigenous culture, environmental preservation and gastronomy.

For this essay – one of my personal favourites – I wrote about the incredible environmental work taking place at Mashpi Lodge. It was published as part of the cover story, “Back to Basics,” which went on to win Consumer Magazine Print Feature of the Year (Latin America & The Caribbean) at the Inspire Global Media Awards 2024.
